Es heißt, bei Auftritten von Gemma Ray werde schon mal das Stahlmesser gezückt. Auf der Bühne versteht sich. Ihrer Gitarre entlockt die britische Singer/Songwriterin damit Knife-Guitar-Slide-Sounds. Die Klangwelten ihrer Musik breiten sich aus zwischen Blues, Psychedelia,Fifties-Pop und cineastischem Sound, gepaart mit ihrem markanten rauchigen Gesang.

What was the most wonderful gig you ever played?
The Royal Albert hall in London (Leadbelly tribute concert)
Where would you absolutely love to play?
Stuttgart Merlin! Or a dog rescue centre full of naughty scruffy terriers.
Have you ever felt bored on stage? If so, why?
Never!
What’s your best memory of seeing live music?
ummm… in recent memory I enjoyed seeing Irmin Schmidt of Can conduct a collection of his work, and I also played in the band afterwards in a special evening at Volksbuhne in Berlin.
Describe the perfect stage outfit.
A Sun Ra inspired 1960s retro futuristic sci-fi african style space-queen mini dress with silver or gold go-go boots.
Please describe your worst studio experience.
being repeatedly auto-tuned behind my back, and then lied to about it so that it had to be undone in the mixes. And the engineer smelling my slippers in secret.
Which things must always be in your tour bag?
lyrics, various works in progress, vegan ’space bars‘ for long soundcheck nasty-hunger protein prevention, nuxe handcream and wet wipes.
