What was the most wonderful gig you ever played?
Several of the shows I’ve played opening for Welcome to Night Vale were very memorable experiences- we’ve played at some incredible theaters and I’ve been very lucky that their audience has embraced me whole heartedly. Highlights include the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver, Elgin Theatre in Toronto, The Paramount in Austin, and The Paramount in Denver.
Where would you absolutely love to play?
In a castle. Or a treetop show in the Black Forest.
Please describe your worst studio experience.
Haven’t had a bad one yet, fortunately!
What would your music sound like if Elvis had never existed?
Possibly the same – my influences are more classical in nature, or some of the chanteuses from a bygone era. Although of course I can’t imagine a world where Elvis never existed…
Which ringtone do you use?
I don’t have one. Boring, I know!
The most beautiful love song ever is called…
„Into my Arms“ by Nick Cave
Which song (except your own songs) do you know by heart?
Too many to list – I used to be a street performer in Los Angeles and learned you make much more money if people recognize the songs you play. Audience favorites include „Moon River“ and „Ring of Fire“.
What would you be today if you had not become a pop star?
Possibly a chef. Or working with animals.
In which band would you like to play (except your own)?
I would absolutely kill to sing backup for Rufus Wainwright.
What’s your favourite instrument?
Tough to pick just one, but the cello is marvelous.
The greatest musical genius (dead or alive)?
Beethoven
The most beautiful woman/man in show business?
Annie Clark (St Vincent) is unreal.
How would you spend an unexpected gift of 1000 Euro (you’re not allowed to invest in alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, holidays or prostitution)?
I’d pay my bills for the month first, then treat myself to a massage or nice new dress. And then donate some to an animal-related charity.
